5 second plot: This is a documentary of the 1998 Superman movie that didn't get made. It was featuring Nicolas Cage as Superman, had Tim Burton directing it and Kevin Smith as one of the writers. A lot of people worked on concepts for the movie but a couple of weeks before production the studio pulled the plug.

5 second review: You have to be a movie and/or comic buff to enjoy this documentary. There wasn't a lot of budget to make something decent. But almost all the big players are interviewed and there's some great archive footage and concept art. It's about more than just one movie, it's an insiders peek into the process of making a studio film.

The Missing Picture is heartbreaking

5 second plot: Filmmaker Rithy Panh uses archival footage and clay figures to tell the story of his childhood in Cambodia when Pol Pot and the Red Khmer destroyed the country and the people living in it.

5 second review: It's devastating to learn about the atrocities committed by these crazy idealists. It's impossible not to feel moved by this very personal tale of a little boy that loses everything. Don't be discouraged by the clay figures. You just have to listen to what they have to say.

Rise of the Continents is kind of a stretch, isn't it?

5 second plot: It's a four part documentary on how the continents came to be.

5 second review: First there was one big mass of land, then it split up into the continents we know today. Boom, there you have it. No need to see this 4 hour long documentary about that. Man, this is a stretch... Showing the same pictures over and over again. Because there is too little to say. Simple as that.

Our Universe is really... big

5 second plot: 50 minutes of watching pretty pictures of our solar system mostly and a bit beyond that.

5 second review: As an adult it is nice to get the overview again from time to time. Well, I think it is anyway. The movie is okay, but it's nothing new. They could had made it more exiting with a bit more 'real' and up to speed data about recent space exploration and things to come (like the moon station).

The African Americans: Many Rivers To Cross Season 1 Episode 1: The Black Atlantic

5 second plot: This first episode covers the history of African Americans from the year 1500  to 1800. During this period slavery was introduced in America. The amount of Africans that were brought to America as slaves during this period was enormous.

5 second review: I don't think I have ever seen a documentary about the history of African Americans. It's a very educational, interesting, well produced mini-series.

Generation Iron does not bring its best game

5 second plot: This is a documentary about bodybuilding. We get a chance to see behind the scenes while the best of the best prepare to become Mr. Olympia.

5 second review: If you're a fan of the sport it will be cool to see all these huge popular guys and their different training methods. The subject is really cool, but the movie isn't. It's really poorly made. Even the background music is just totally ridiculous. It doesn't look legendary at all. And it should.

Hawking is not very exciting

5 second plot: A film about the life of brilliant scientist Stephen Hawking. Told by himself.

5 second review: This movie is for fans and for people that have never heard of him. For the rest of us, it's a bit boring. I know who he is and read the book. That's about all that is told here. I didn't realize he is already 71 though. That took me by surprise. I feel like an asshole giving him a low score like this.

North America Season 1

5 second plot: The marvelous nature of North America: beautiful pictures of vast landscapes and incredible nature in the mix with amazing short stories of detailed life (and death).

5 second review: It's one beautiful and incredible image after another. Told with a lot of 'grandeur' and big tough words. But from time to time also funny (hilarious even) and light. The scope of what is shown is very limited. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to call it 'North America'. That creates an expectation. Unless there is a second season in the making of course.

Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope is all about the people

5 second plot: A documentary of Comic-Con: the four day convention uniting geeks from around the world in their celebration of comics and all high-end stuff related to that. Or not.

5 second review: This documentary is more about the people than about the convention itself. And I am more interested in the latter. So this was kind of a bummer for me.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams is amazing

5 second plot: Werner Herzog was allowed access to film in the Chauvet cave in France. This cave contains the oldest cave paintings in the world.

5 second review: The filmmakers didn't have a lot of material to work with and it wasn't easy filming in the very strictly regulated circumstances. So the quality of the film itself isn't top notch. But I'm still very happy someone decided to record this for everyone to see. Because the subject matter is fantastic.
