Extant Season 1 Episode 13: Ascension (season finale)

5 second plot: Molly flies up to the Seraphim to save her colleague and redirect the space station away from it's collision course with earth. John finds the bomb inside Ethan. But it's not easy to remove it. The offspring takes over the space command center and tries to stop Molly.

5 second review: It's pretty cool they did a 2001 reference with Ben. 'I'm afraid I can't do that.' Classic. The whole idea of spores attacking is awesome and the futuristic aspects of the show are great. But there are lots of things in this episode that annoyed me. Like the box that says 'Plan C' when they were just talking about plan A and plan B. Or the fact that they are talking about everyday feelings when they have a killer ET kid walking around, an explosive robot-kid and a spouse that is going on a suicide mission. You would think they'd be a bit more stressed.

Extant Season 1 Episode 12: Before the Blood

5 second plot: Earth has lost contact with the spaceship. Molly is trying to figure out what is going on. In the spaceship everybody (well, there is only one guy) is happy to see Katie again, but we, the viewers, can sense that something's up. Ethan almost blows up the lab. And Molly finally meets her alien boy.

5 second review: Finally! We get the see the little bugger. He looks awesome. Really sweet kid with eyes that glow. It was about time this show started picking up speed. There's only one episode left and a lot of riddles left unsolved. Please oh please don't let this be a cliffhanger ending.

Extant Season 1 Episode 11: A New World

5 second plot: Dead bodies keep piling up. The offspring doesn't like to feel threatened, so it seems. Sparks and his wife are still helping it. Molly is also in pursuit. We find out more about Yasumoto. He is a really old fella who is running out of magical life juice. He very much wants to get a hold of the offspring's power. And he'll do anything to get it.

5 second review: I'm just hoping that the conclusion of this season will not be a disappointment. Because I can already feel it... They keep the viewer out of the loop for way too long. This only makes my expectation grow even larger. But it could mean that they don't know what they're doing and we will be left with a bummer (or even will simply be left hanging). I have a bad feeling about this.

Extant Season 1 Episode 9 and 10: Care and Feeding and A Pack of Cards

5 second plot: The offspring is on the run. It's using Sparks to get away and to help it get stronger. Yasumoto is trying to get to it by using Molly and her family. Ethan is becoming friends with the guy that wants to see him destroyed.

5 second review: We get to see a bit through the eyes of the offspring but I would really like to see the little critter itself by now. We get a little bit of a glimpse but it's not much. It hasn't made a lot of friends since it got to earth. Maybe it's going to be a showdown between alien-baby and robot-boy. Or maybe they hook up and kill us all.

Extant Season 1 Episode 7 and 8: More in Heaven and Earth and Incursion

5 second plot: Molly wants to see the offspring (that's what they are calling the alien baby) no matter what. She gets help out of an unexpected corner. Ethan suddenly knows how to speak Japanese. John wants to slow his learning process down a bit (to protect him) but Ethan found a way to shut him out. And something's up with Julie's boyfriend.

5 second review: Wooow, the baby talking to Molly through a flock of birds? Awesome! Ethan turning into a Terminator nightmare? Scary! But it can still go either way: let's hope he turns into Arnie from T2 instead of T1. I'm getting a bit annoyed by some plain stupid stuff (like how 'easy' some things go) but I'm just going to go with the flow for now.

Extant Season 1 Episode 6: Nightmares

5 second plot: Ethan has a nightmare. But the thing is: he wasn't programmed to dream. Also: he is getting very smart very quickly. The alien baby is getting in the scientists' heads. And he (it?) isn't happy being locked up. The astronaut that was presumed dead pops up. He steals a very important video and tries to contact Molly.

5 second review: Etan's role is becoming clear. He is getting extremely smart and can help Molly in her search for the truth. There's some cool new future technology stuff in this episode. But the invisible bugging device is taking it a bit too far (and making it a tad too easy). There's also a scene (the one with the changing of the robotic arm) that is very poorly done. That's a very cheap shot.

Extant Season 1 Episode 5: What on Earth Is Wrong?

5 second plot: Molly and Ethan are found unconscious in the woods. Molly isn't pregnant anymore. Everyone thinks she's crazy. And her friend the doctor has to play along with the lies, so Molly has got no-one to back up her story. Ethan is not doing well. John and Julie can't get him started up again.

5 second review: It's cool (but also frustrating) that only we, the audience, know that Molly isn't crazy. It's a bit (of let's say: very) stupid that they just let her come to work again. The new energy filter is awesome. This, together with the images of the thriving baby boy, is again very promising.

Extant Season 1 Episode 4: Shelter

5 second plot: Molly and her family are on the run. They don't really know from what exactly. They arrive at her father's place and try to do a DNA test themselves. Yasumoto and his disciples are tracking her down. He is looking for some sort of life sustaining substance and he thinks Molly holds the key to getting his hands on it.

5 second review: Not everything makes sense in this episode. For starters: what's with all the guns? That seems a bit much to track down an unarmed family. And at the end of the episode Molly develops some kind of superpower to escape and then stumbles into the operating room. That's just plain stupid. But I'm still very curious of how it's going to go down, so I'm not really complaining. Or at least not a lot.

Extant Season 1 Episode 3: Wish You Were Here

5 second plot: Molly's boss tells her they did some off the book fertility test on her when she was in space. She doesn't believe him and lets her friend doctor run some more tests. John throws Molly a birthday/welcome back party. For the first time in years Molly meets Marcus' brother. Or does she?

5 second review: It still gives me a strange feeling that the two main stories don't seem to be meant to intertwine at some point. We've got the robot-kid that's going to cause mayhem (undoubtedly) and the alien-pregnancy. I would have preferred a focus that is more clear. But I'm still very interested in how it is all going to go down.

Extant Season 1 Episode 2: Extinct

5 second plot: Dad gets a new state of the art lab. Spared no expense. Mom tries to bond with robot-son. She meets her ghost ex-boyfriend again. And finds out that the previous guy in space experienced the same stuff she did (he's not pregnant though). He blew his dead mother out the air vent. She also gets a 100% confirmation of her pregnancy. It's a human baby. So no chest burst just yet.

5 second review: The big question remains: what the f*ck is going on? I like that mystery. And the small futuristic details. Like eggs that stand up instead of fall over. There are some things that are getting on my nerves. Like the dad being way too optimistic about the humanics (he must have seen The Terminator, right?). On a side note: is dad sleeping with his assistant?

Extant Season 1 Episode 1: Re-Entry

5 second plot: Molly is an astronaut who has just returned from a 13-month solo space mission. Although she was alone up there, she somehow got pregnant. Her husband is working on advanced artificial intelligence robots. They already have a son designed by him. Molly doesn't connect well with her robot son. And then there's the Yasumoto organisation that seems to overlook all of them.

5 second review: Wow, this is an awesome pilot. We've got a possible psycho robot kid (who looks a bit like the kid in The Omen), a possible alien-pregnancy and a creepy know-it-all organisation. This organisation is lead by a guy who isn't 100% normal either. Great mysteries. And great expectations.
