Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 1: The Vulcan Hello

5 second plot: On a mission to figure out what went wrong with a communication beacon the U.S.S. Shenzou has a run in with an unidentified object. Spoiler alert: it's a Klingon warship ready for action.

5 second review: The visuals are good and the Klingons are cool but everything else is pretty weak. It already starts with the opening credits. It's all a big bummer. The dialogue is so silly, even the actors don't believe what they are saying. And this first episode ends in a cliff hanger, can you believe it.

What Happened to Monday is too much

5 second plot: The world has become overpopulated. To keep this population fed, scientists have found a way to enhance crops. But this resulted in even more kids. So now the government has decided that parents can only have one child. Somehow the seven (identical) Settmans siblings have survived without being noticed. But now one of them has gone missing.

5 second review: The action sequences are good and Noomi Rapace does a fine job portraying seven different people. The future looks like today. Except for the cheap stuff. It was a good idea on paper, but as a movie it's not that interesting. And it's too much of the same, it's too long and the story comes to a full stop too often (and then it's like no-one knows what to do next).

Spider-Man: Homecoming is fun

5 second plot: This time it's not Spider-Man: the Origin Story but Spider-Man: in School. He's a kid (15 years old) waiting (desperately) for a call from Iron Man to assemble. In the meantime he uses his cool suit to keep the neighborhood friendly. But when the Vulture, an alien tech weapons dealer, crosses his path, the bar gets raised.

5 second review: It's a fun movie, with great visual effects and Tom Holland is a very good teenage Spider-Man. But why is Iron Man constantly crashing the party? Spider-Man is a self-made dude, not Iron Man's bitch.

Transformers: The Last Knight is nuts

5 second plot: Humans and Transformers have to work together once again to save the world. Marky Mark gets insider information from Anthony Hopkins on the secret history of the Transformers. It appears that they were already here in the time of King Arthur. And that they saved our butts more times than we can count.

5 second review: What can I say that hasn't been said already about Michael Bay's movies? It's a big incomprehensible action extravaganza. I was already confused beyond repair after 10 minutes. But it's a cool slick (chaotic) action movie filled with robots, chases and explosions. So if you're into that: go for it.

Alien: Covenant does not hold back

5 second plot: A spaceship carrying lots of sleeping colonists on their way to a new home gets hit by a blast of idontknowwhat. The crew wakes up, repairs the damage and picks up a recording of someone singing a John Denver song. Which is weird because they are the first humans there. So they investigate. Bad move.

5 second review: The horror is very good (critters crawling out of humans galore), the aliens are pretty good too (especially the last one), the science fiction (spaceships) is incredible, but somehow something didn't feel right. I think it's the fact that it's not really about the aliens.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 1 is bleak

5 second plot: Humanity has become infertile. Only a few babies are born. The US has been taken over by traditional fundamentalists. Their solution to the problem is to gather up the fertile woman and have them impregnated by the leaders of the country. Offred is one of those women.

5 second review: For a world where they are scared not to have enough people they sure are killing a lot of them. It's a bleak story (more drama than sci-fi) that slowly unfolds over the course of ten episodes. Sometimes it feels a little bit stretched out, but I don't think they could have fitted this in a normal length movie. Elisabeth Moss' performance is amazing. The way she has to switch from one extreme emotion (trying to keep her shit together) to another is unreal.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is lots of fun

5 second plot: The Guardians try to help where they can in the Galaxy. When Rocket does something stupid they get into a whole lot of trouble. Also in this volume: Peter meets his dad. And Baby Groot is growing up and learning from the best.

5 second plot: There isn't much of a story. We're just following the Guardians around as they go about their business. There are a lot more tears and touchy-feely moments in this second volume and that's not really my thing. But there's also much more humor. It's not always smart or sophisticated, but there's something about these characters that make me laugh my ass off. So I had a lot of fun.

Life sure is scary

5 second plot: Scientists orbiting earth examine a microscopic lifeform from Mars. It's all going very well. Until they piss it off.

5 second review: This movie is not a pleasant watch. You know what's going to happen from the get go. And you really don't want it to happen. And then all of a sudden you realize it's even worse than you thought. And then... it gets worse. The alien life form is not always as impressive as I had hoped, but the movie sure is scary.

Logan doesn't fuck around

5 second plot: In the near future (2029 or something like that) Logan (aka the Wolverine, but you knew that) is hiding together with Professor X. He's losing his powers and getting weaker every day. He ends up on the radar of an evil organization when a mutant girl with powers like him escapes.

5 second review: Wow, I wasn't expecting an all out brutal Wolverine like this! What a treat! (If you're into body parts (especially heads) being chopped off and all that.) I prefer seeing a Wolverine in top shape but I guess this is a story that needed to be told. You can tell Hugh Jackman invested a lot emotionally in this movie. The final showdown is legendary.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is conveniently awesome

5 second plot: There are only 4000 people left on the planet (a bit less after this movie). But there's an antidote for the virus (now that's convenient). Alice has got 24 hours to get to the hive and release this antidote. For everyone's convenience this convenient antivirus is airborne. Hooray.

5 second review: After a much appreciated recap by Alice the action starts IMMEDIATELY. LET'S GET CRACKIN'! The red queen rules, Alice rules, the bad guys can't shoot for shit and the effects are not very good, but not terrible either. The fans gotta love this. It's awesome, right?

Rogue One is a good adventure

5 second plot: It's the story of the brave rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star (and set the tone for the original trilogy).

5 second review: I don't like what they did with the computer generated (human) faces. It looks like clay animation from the '80s. It's a good adventure and there are some great action scenes. The appearance of Darth Vader is the big thing that makes seeing (and repeated viewing of) this movie worthwhile.

Westworld Season 1 Episode 4-10 is damn near perfect

5 second plot: The man in black and Dolores are looking for the center of the maze. Some of the hosts are starting to become aware of who (or what) they are. Ford is building a big new story-line. The other original creator, Arnold, seems to be reaching out from the afterlife.

5 second review: If you haven't started seeing this brilliant show yet, what are you doing wasting your time reading this? Hop to it! The hot shot actors are in top form, the mystery is out of this world awesome and the story is damn near perfect. I almost can't believe they pulled it off. This is must see TV. Pronto!

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 4: Service

5 second plot: This episode is all about Negan paying a visit to Alexandria to come and get half of their shit. And all of their guns. Carl tries to make a stand but it's no use.

5 second review: An entire episode of dancing around (Negan in Rick's face the entire time, threatening everything with a heartbeat) is a little bit too much of the same.

Arrival is mind-blowing

5 second plot: When 12 big alien spacecraft arrive it's up to the world's scientists and linguistic experts to figure out what the aliens want. Are they just visiting or are they here to kick us out?

5 second review: This movie is something else. It's mind-blowingly complex and mysterious but also dramatic and an emotional roller-coaster. It's certainly something you don't see every day. In the wrong hands, this would have been a disaster. Lucky for us, it is quite the opposite.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 3: The Cell

5 second plot: We get an introduction to The Sanctuary, where the Saviors live. This is a place where the strong have it good, and the weak do not. Daryl is a prisoner here. And Dwight and Negan are trying to break him. Because they know Daryl could be an asset.

5 second review: I like this new place. Not that I agree with the way Negan runs things, but it's refreshing to take a peek inside this rather big expansion of TWD universe.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 2: The Well

5 second plot: Carol and Morgan find themselves in The Kingdom, where the sun always shines and everyone is always happy. The Kingdom is ruled by King Ezekiel. His best friend is big ass tiger.

5 second review: The tiger rules! That's all there is to say really.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be

5 second plot: Negan gets a proper introduction. Our favorite zombie apocalypse survivors meet his precious Lucille: a barb wired baseball bat. And she's thirsty for blood.

5 second review: Be prepared. This is an extremely brutal episode. I never thought they would dare go this far and this explicit. It's awesome. I feel sorry for the actors though. The emotional shit they have to go through must be devastating. It's a shame that Negan can't swear the way he does in the comics. They can show the goriest gore, but he can't say 'fuck'. Go figure.

Westworld Season 1 Episode 3: The Stray

5 second plot: The hosts (the robots) are starting to remember things, starting to hold grudges, straying, looping,... all sorts of stuff that makes the security team very nervous. But the programmers seem to be on top of things. Until one of them almost gets smashed. The weird behavior seems to be connected to Arnold, one of the original creators, who died in the park.

5 second review:  I like the way the plot slowly thickens and how mystery is taking center stage. I don't understand why the hosts are going through these elaborate story-lines when no-one is watching. It's cool though. It makes good television.

IMDb score: 9,1/10

Westworld Season 1 Episode 2: Chestnut

5 second plot: We follow 2 new guests as they arrive. I'm guessing we'll be seeing more of them in the next episodes. The man in black is looking for the entrance to the maze. This is the 'expert' level of the park. More and more robots are starting to remember things. And that's bad, because they have been through some crazy shit.

5 second review: I love this mysterious mix of western and sci-fi. The characters are perfect and the story-lines are very interesting. The overall quality of this show is very good. It's impressive.

IMDb score: 9,1/10

Westworld Season 1 Episode 1: The Original

5 second plot: Westworld is a western theme park where guests can live out their fantasies. They can do whatever they want with the robots that live there. These robots are state of the art, you can't distinguish them from real humans. They're programmed to stick to a certain script, but some of them are beginning to deviate from it a little bit too much.

5 second review: This first episode looks great. The cast is spectacular. The theme park is awesome. The back stage looks fantastic. I think this could be the next big thing (I'm talking TWD and GoT big). I would like a little bit more information on how it's all supposed to work. Because I think the idea is that this is the future and we shouldn't be asking too many questions. But that's not good enough for me.
