Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child is nothing new

5 second plot: There's been an outbreak of self-bred killer monsters on a colonized planet (we're in the future by the way). A military man has got somewhat less than 24 hours to save his family before the planet is destroyed (as a containment precaution).

5 second review: The sci-fi stuff is not bad for a low budget movie. The big set pieces are filmed from a distance or in a bit of a blur, but that's still okay. Some things weren't given enough thought though. Like prison guards with very impractical armor (it had to be cool, not practical, I guess). There's nothing new, nothing original, so why waste your time creating a small budget movie like this? There's no added value.

Message from the King is brutal

5 second plot: Jacob came from South Africa to Los Angeles to find his missing sister. But he is too late, she has been murdered. Jacob starts looking for the men responsible.

5 second review: This is a brutal revenge tale, but it's not slick or cool revenge, it's pure dramatic rage. Overall it's a decent movie with a very strong performance by Chadwick Boseman but there are a couple of false notes, like the strange relationship between Jacob and his neighbor.

Free Fire is slick

5 second plot: A weapons deal turns into a shoot-out.

5 second review: An entire movie about a shoot-out? Yep. But it doesn't get boring at all. It's fun, slick and has some of the craziest dialogue I've heard in a long time. Simple cool action, that's more than good enough for me. I didn't have to switch my brain on or nothing. Great cast too, by the way.

The Lost City of Z is a good biography

5 second plot: This is the true-life story of Percy Fawcett, a man who spent his entire life looking for a lost city (maybe even a lost city of gold) in the Amazonian jungle.

5 second review: I guess it's a good biography but it's not very entertaining as a movie. The only thing that kept my spirits up was the fact that I was going to see an incredible discovery. Spoiler alert (seriously, if you want to see the movie, do not read on): I didn't get to see jack shit. They probably never found the bloody city. What a waste of my precioussss time.

Colossal is weird

5 second plot: Gloria has got a drinking problem. She goes back to her old neighborhood to sort things out. And then she finds out that she is somehow connected to a monster that's roaming the streets of Seoul.

5 second review: I don't know who came up with this crazy idea or who had the balls to greenlit it, but I definitely do not know what they are trying to tell us. Either someone lost their mind halfway through the movie or someone didn't know what to do next and only had 60 minutes worth of film and started randomly making stuff up. I sure as hell don't know what to make of this. Please don't tell me this is a lesson on the dangers of addiction.

The Belko Experiment is quite entertaining

5 second plot: All employees of the Belko company are suddenly locked up in their building. They've got 2 hours to kill 30 people or 60 will die.

5 second review: I think almost every stereotype I could possibly imagine is in this movie. For instance: the sleeping security guard. It's a crazy story, but the actors are okay and it is actually quite entertaining. If you're into crazy shit.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 10: New Best Friends

5 second plot: Some of the warriors of the Kingdom are sick of being bullied by the Saviors. Daryl finds out that Carol is in the neighborhood. In the last seconds of the previous episode Rick and co were captured by an all-dressed-in-black-too-cool-for-school-team. He tries to convince them to join him in his fight against the Saviors.

5 second review: I don't like the new group Rick just found. It felt a bit like I was watching Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It's too much of a coincidence to find a big group with bad asses who are willing to fight (and are expendable). All they want is lots of guns. And we already know where they are going to get them. Remember the forest women? Also too obvious. Wouldn't it be easier to stick to the comic-book storyline?

The Great Wall is kind of stupid

5 second plot: Matt Damon and another dude are looking for gunpowder near China. They end up helping the Chinese defend the Great Wall against monsters. For real.

5 second review: It wasn't smart to play this dead serious and even refer to real cultural and historical elements and then screw it up on every level. It makes this movie look really silly. The effects are the only thing that could have made it watchable but even they are surprisingly bad. Look at that ridiculous monster! They must have forgotten the eyes and just randomly put them somewhere.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is conveniently awesome

5 second plot: There are only 4000 people left on the planet (a bit less after this movie). But there's an antidote for the virus (now that's convenient). Alice has got 24 hours to get to the hive and release this antidote. For everyone's convenience this convenient antivirus is airborne. Hooray.

5 second review: After a much appreciated recap by Alice the action starts IMMEDIATELY. LET'S GET CRACKIN'! The red queen rules, Alice rules, the bad guys can't shoot for shit and the effects are not very good, but not terrible either. The fans gotta love this. It's awesome, right?

War on Everyone is not FOR everyone

5 second plot: Two corrupt cops (with their harts in the right place) go about their business. Catching bad guys. Steeling their money. And their TV.

5 second review: This movie balances on the edge between being super cool and being a failed wannabee. A lot of cool stuff is certainly mixed together (relaxed dudes, talking cool, nice car, cool soundtrack, lots of drugs, alcohol, guns,..) but there's not a lot of back-bone to support all this coolness. Not everyone is going to like it, but I could see what the idea was and I had a blast.

The Girl with All the Gifts is too sweet

5 second plot: Spoiler alert! (The least you know, the better your viewing experience will be.) The world has been overrun by bloodthirsty infected 'hungries'. Some kids are infected, but can still function normally, as long as they don't smell fresh meat. They might hold the key to the cure everyone's looking for.

5 second review: The infected are awesome when they get furious and very scary when they are in sleep-mode. It's not easy to add some new interesting thoughts to the zombie/infected genre, but this movie manages it. They made the girl (from the title) too sweet though. It's over the top and it's distracting.

Underworld: Blood Wars is not much worse than the previous ones

5 second plot: Lycans are trying to find Selene's daughter because they think her blood will make them invincible. And they need to be invicible if they want to wipe out the vampires.

5 second review: If you didn't like the previous Underworld movies, don't bother with this one. If you did, you will probably find this one to be a bit crazier and less coherent than the previous ones but it's not a whole lot worse. And it's got some seriously cool Nordic vampires with psychic abilities. And guess who gets a taste of that?

Live by Night has a lot to tell

5 second plot: Joe is a small time crook in Boston in the Prohibition era who reluctantly starts working for the mob. He told himself he wouldn't take orders from anyone again if he survived the war (WW I). But here he is.

5 second review: There is a LOT going on in this movie. It feels like a 24 episode TV show crammed into a 2 hour movie. There's no time to nod off here, you have to pay attention. Blink and you'll miss something. That is a bit overwhelming, but it sure as hell isn't boring. It's a cool violent gangster movie. If you're not a big fan of Ben Affleck you're going to hate his smirky attitude though.

Why Him? is not much fun

5 second plot: Bryan Cranston is meeting his daughter's boyfriend for the first time. Turns out he is a very rich rock star tech wizard. Totally the opposite of good old fashioned dad. So of course they collide and yada yada yada you know what happens next.

5 second review: I guess the characters are supposed to be funny. Well... they are (painfully) not. I almost gave up after 30 minutes but I hung in there and I (eventually) did laugh a couple of times (the mom's alright, and dad's computer guy is also alright) but overall: not okay man.

Silence is too old school

5 second plot: Two young Christian priests travel to 17th century Japan to look for their mentor Liam Neeson. Their religion is forbidden in Japan, so it's a very dangerous mission.

5 second review: This movie feels like it's 40 years old. And it did not withstand the test of time. It's a bit silly, its got way too much symbolism and the running time is too long. I don't know how I got through it. But some people seem to like it, so maybe don't listen to me. Or is it because of the big 'directed by' name? A lot of effort was put into getting things right though. It looks like the actors almost starved themselves to death.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a bloody scary mystery

5 second plot: Tommy and Austin have to examine the body of a mysterious woman that was found in the basement of a murder scene. Slowly but surely they come to realize that they are dealing with some seriously fucked up shit.

5 second review: This is a dark, creepy, fascinating mystery. And it scared the shit out of me (I must admit I scare easily). The thing I liked most about it is that they decide to get the fuck out of there on the first sign of trouble. Don't you just love that? You never see that in a horror movie. They don't argue about it or nothing.

Manchester by the Sea is sad

5 second plot: Lee has to go back to his home town when his brother passes away. This brings back awful memories.

5 second review: This is like an instruction video on what happens when someone in your family passes away. Mixed with everyday events like forgetting where you parked your car. But there's also a mysterious event from the past that drives the movie. If you were looking for a good sad drama, this is definitely one for you.

Rogue One is a good adventure

5 second plot: It's the story of the brave rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star (and set the tone for the original trilogy).

5 second review: I don't like what they did with the computer generated (human) faces. It looks like clay animation from the '80s. It's a good adventure and there are some great action scenes. The appearance of Darth Vader is the big thing that makes seeing (and repeated viewing of) this movie worthwhile.

IMDb score: 8/10

Passengers is spectacular

5 second plot: Two people wake up out of a hybernation sleep on a spaceship heading to a new world. But they wake up 90 years too soon with no way of going back to sleep. There are probably worse things than waking up with Jennifer Lawrence.

5 second review: It's visually spectacular with great action sequences, a beautiful romance and some serious life questions. Something for everyone I guess. The ending feels a bit rushed but everything else is pretty great.

IMDb score: 7/10

Assassin's Creed is wicked awesome

5 second plot: Say what now?

5 second review: I don't understand why no-one seems to like this one. The plot is nuts, but it's a great action movie filled with cool fight sequences, impressive gimmicks, lots of mystery and let's not forget: friggin' assassins.
