The Big Sick is not very entertaining

5 second plot: Kumail, a stand-up comedian, falls in love with Emily. He is from Pakistan and she is not. So it's kind of a forbidden relationship. This leads to them breaking up. Not long after they break up, she ends up in a coma. He stays by her side, but this is pretty awkward since her parents -who he never met - are also there and they know they broke up.

5 second review: It's more about romance and about human relationships than it is about comedy. It's funny from time to time but it's not the main focus. It's a very personal story (literally) for Kumail Nanjiani so I guess he had to tell it the way it really happened. The premise is very special, but the story is not entertaining enough to fill a 2 hour movie. Or maybe it just isn't my thing. I loved the ending though.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 8: Come to Jesus

5 second plot: Wednesday is still looking for Gods to fight on his side. At the end of this episode he seems to get what he wants. Laura and Mad Sweeney catch up with Shadow. Laura finds out her death was part of an elaborate plan.

5 second review: Finally we get a couple of answers. But I think this is the last episode of this season. So I'm wondering: what the fuck have I been wasting my time watching this shit? Especially this episode looks like a goddamn music video. It's style over content. To hide the fact that there doesn't seem to be any content. But the 9,1 score on the IMDb has just shut me up.

Rough Night is not that funny

5 second plot: Jess and her friends accidentally kill a stripper on her bachelorette party. Instead of turning themselves in, they decide to get rid of the body. Not everything works out as planned.

5 second review: This is a comedy mostly oriented towards a female audience. It's a sweet feel good cherish-your-friends story that's meant to be funny. I had to laugh a couple of times and Kate McKinnon is hilarious as the weird Australian friend but most of the jokes are too dumb to be funny or haven't been funny since 1989's Weekend at Bernie's.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 7: A Prayer for Mad Sweeney

5 second plot: As Laura and Mad Sweeney are trying to catch up with Shadow and Wednesday we get a little bit of an origin story of Mad. Set in a different time.

5 second review: This is the kind of episode I would make if I suddenly realized I didn't have enough material to make the number of episodes I promised I would make. It adds little to nothing to the storyline and isn't very interesting.

Going in Style is very friendly

5 second plot: Three old timers decide to rob a bank after they lose their pension.

5 second review: I don't understand how a young director like Zach Braff was able to make a movie like this. Every problem a person has or could have when he/she gets older is in this movie. And of course it's all played for laughs. It's a 'friendly' movie but I didn't really laugh very often. I may have smiled a couple of times.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 14: The Other Side

5 second plot: Sasha, Rosita and their big ass gun are going to try to take out Negan. The Saviors visit the Hilltop. They've come for the doctor, since Negan threw their last one in the stove.

5 second review: It's not easy to keep a TV series interesting for 7 seasons. This episode sure does make that clear. I was wondering why Sasha was mourning so hard, but now I remembered that she was with what's his name. The Saviors came for the doctor with 50 men (approx.). Why so many? That doesn't make sense. They wanted us to think they came looking for Daryl probably. Well, congrats, you fooled me.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage is a little bit of fun

5 second plot: Vin Diesel is pulled out of retirement after 15 years to put together an awesome team and go fetch a device that can bring down satellites.

5 second review: The action is good, but there are too many cheap tricks to try and make it look cool: pretty girls, smart ass one-liners, crazy stunts (skiing through the jungle), crazier chases (an underwater bike chase), nut-job gimmicks, popular celebrity cameos, games with grenades,... And there is one member of the team who's special skill is DJ-ing. Say what now?

Underworld: Blood Wars is not much worse than the previous ones

5 second plot: Lycans are trying to find Selene's daughter because they think her blood will make them invincible. And they need to be invicible if they want to wipe out the vampires.

5 second review: If you didn't like the previous Underworld movies, don't bother with this one. If you did, you will probably find this one to be a bit crazier and less coherent than the previous ones but it's not a whole lot worse. And it's got some seriously cool Nordic vampires with psychic abilities. And guess who gets a taste of that?

The Girl on the Train is a very dark mystery

5 second plot: Every day Rachel rides the train fantasizing about other people's lives. This is her way of trying to cope with losing her own perfect life. One day the police shows up asking questions about a missing person. This happens to be one of her favorite train fantasy people.

5 second review: It's a very decent mystery but it tackles lots of serious issues so it's more dark drama than exciting mystery. And I was rooting for the latter.

Hell or High Water is heavy shit

5 second plot: Two brothers start robbing local banks in Texas. They need the money to save their family's ranch. An old school Ranger is on their tail.

5 second review: Man, was I glad this movie was over. Not that it's bad, it's actually quite good, but it's so sad and heavy, it felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. There's sad music playing the entire time (violins and everything). And everyone is acting like there is a ton of lead in their shoes. But the story is actually not that sad. Confused yet? So was I.

Into the Forest is heavy stuff

5 second plot: A father and his two daughters have to survive without electricity in their remote house in the forest when a nation-wide power outage hits their region.

5 second review: The main characters do crazy things no-one would ever do in a situation like theirs. This reminded me constantly that I was watching a movie. It's a heavy drama. It felt like I was watching the movie with a ton of bricks on my shoulders. Well, it's kind of the end of the world so I guess there's nothing light about that.

The Secret Life of Pets is too nuts

5 second plot: Two dogs get lost in the big city. Their friends start a search and rescue.

5 second review: Little kids will enjoy the movie. I had to laugh a bit a couple of times but I was expecting it to be more out loud. Instead of telling a simple adventure story about normal pets (and their extraordinary secret lives), the focus suddenly switches to crazy pets that live in the city's underworld. The plot spirals totally out of control. It goes completely nuts and turns into a big mess.

Swiss Army Man is just too weird

5 second plot: A young man is stuck on a deserted island in the Pacific. As he prepares to kill himself a dead body washes ashore. He rides this dead body like a jet-ski (powered by farts) to the mainland. He then finds out that his new friend has got lots of cool super powers.

5 second review: This is definitely something you don't see every day. It's a little bit too weird, dreamy and experimental for my taste but if you're looking for something different, fresh and bonkers: you might really enjoy this one.

Adventures in Babysitting is kids only

5 second plot: Jenny and Lola are two complete opposites who's phones get switched. Lola takes on a babysitting job by answering Jenny's phone. But it's not as easy as she thought it would be. Being that she's babysitting kids from hell. Lola and Jenny end up with a whole bunch of crazy kids in the city having all kinds of adventures.

5 second review: This is a Disney original movie. It's a very innocent, sweet, fun kids movie. It's got a little bit of that Home Alone vibe but it's not quite there yet. It's also totally not like the classic 1987 Adventures in Babysitting (the one with Elisabeth Shue). This 2016 one is really for kids only.

The Huntsman: Winter's War is a bit childish

5 second plot: Two huntsman have to prevent the Ice Queen from getting her hands on her sister's  mirror. If she gets her hands on it, she will be unstoppable.

5 second review: Chris Hemsworth is way too jokey. It's ridiculous. Jessica Chastain restores the balance by looking really awesome. The visual effects are nice and I always love a good eye for detail but it's all a bit childish and the story isn't strong enough to keep an audience's attention.

Criminal gets fired up

5 second plot: When the only man who knows the secret location of a computer wizard that can blow up the world dies, the CIA decides to put his memories in the brain of a crazy killer. (It's a very state of the art procedure, don't ask too many questions.) But this crazy killer also inherits the skill-set of the (dead) highly trained CIA operative. And that means: party time.

5 second review: What are all these big name actors doing in a movie like this? Did you read the plot? If you are wondering: is it really as stupid as it sounds? Yes, it is. I did like Kevin Costner in bad ass mode though. He rocks.

Blood Sombrero is half assed cool

5 second plot: Everyone in the movie is looking for an ancient magic box that holds unlimited power. Or something like that. And they will kill everyone in their path to get their hands on it.

5 second review: This was made on a shoestring budget with friends and family. And with a little help from the local strip joint. Everything is half assed (the 'stunts' for instance). But I still salute everyone involved for the great effort. There are things in this movie that are actually cool. And I even had to laugh a couple of times.

The Girl in the Photographs has got one major flaw

5 second plot: Colleen is stalked by someone who leaves pictures of mutilated women for her to find. The cops don't take it seriously. They think it's just make-up and someone's way of asking for attention. But we know that there's a serial killer at work and that he's closing in.

5 second review: For a low budget horror movie this is actually not bad. There certainly are talented people at work here. But there is one thing that's very wrong, and that's the casting of Kumar as a stuck up photographer. My god, is he annoying. He almost single-handedly destroys everything that's good about the movie.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is very serious

5 second plot: Batman has had it with Superman. So he decides to kick him off his pedestal.

5 second review: This movie hits you like a tornado. A messy one. It is a very big special effects extravaganza. The wizardry is good though. It's a very serious movie, there's no joking around. And that's the main reason I didn't enjoy it very much. When you've got a couple of superheroes in spandex flying through the air, beating the crap out of each other with parts of buildings, you have to keep it light.

The Other Side of the Door is heavy shit

5 second plot: Maria loses her son in a terrible car accident. She can't live with the fact that he's gone. She finds out that she might be able to talk to him one last time. If she brings his ashes to an ancient temple. There's only one rule. She cannot open the door to the other side. No matter what. Guess what happens?

5 second review: This movie is definitely well made. It's dark and scary. But also very sad. Did they really have to take a kid as the center of the drama? Spoilers ahead! I always like to get some closure at the end of a 'heavy' movie like this, a little light at the end of the dark tunnel. But it ends as dark as it begins.
