Baby Driver rules

5 second plot: Baby is a getaway driver. He's very young, but he's the best in the business. He doesn't want to be a criminal, but he can't seem to get out. When he falls in love, things get complicated.

5 second review: It doesn't happen very often that you get to see a movie so cool and slick that you want to watch it again right after you saw it. This is one of those movies. Jamie Foxx's character is the only false note, everything else is film fan heaven.

Free Fire is slick

5 second plot: A weapons deal turns into a shoot-out.

5 second review: An entire movie about a shoot-out? Yep. But it doesn't get boring at all. It's fun, slick and has some of the craziest dialogue I've heard in a long time. Simple cool action, that's more than good enough for me. I didn't have to switch my brain on or nothing. Great cast too, by the way.

The Fate of the Furious is loads of fun

5 second plot: This time it's Dom against his own team because an international criminal has got him by the balls. With world peace at stake, everyone needs to step up his/her game.

5 second review: The Rock is a fucking monster. The Stath is a fucking ninja. Charlize is a bit of a drama queen. The action sequences are awesome. The team working together (and bitching at one another) is loads of fun. The dialogue is shit (except for the bitching), but you don't get a chance to really notice because there's always a car chase, ass kicking and/or explosion behind the corner.

Going in Style is very friendly

5 second plot: Three old timers decide to rob a bank after they lose their pension.

5 second review: I don't understand how a young director like Zach Braff was able to make a movie like this. Every problem a person has or could have when he/she gets older is in this movie. And of course it's all played for laughs. It's a 'friendly' movie but I didn't really laugh very often. I may have smiled a couple of times.

Ghost in the Shell is very cool

5 second plot: A young woman's brain is successfully transplanted into a mechanical body. The result is a bad ass soldier called 'Major'. On one of her missions she encounters a mysterious hacker. This encounter leads to her questioning her own existence.

5 second review: Scarlett looks awesome, the hacker is cool, the world looks the way it should look (in my opinion), the cybertech shit and stuff is solid and the action is good. There could have been a little bit more action and little less walking around though. And there's some seriously shitty CGI in the final showdown.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is the real deal

5 second plot: John Wick's coming out of retirement sets off a chain of events leading to him being on everyone's kill list. But you know John: if he sees you first, you're already dead.

5 second review: I love his old school judo (well, maybe not really judo) fighting style and I also love the old school rules and regulations surrounding the union of hit men/women. This movie is one big fight sequence where the character you're rooting for always ends up on top.

Live by Night has a lot to tell

5 second plot: Joe is a small time crook in Boston in the Prohibition era who reluctantly starts working for the mob. He told himself he wouldn't take orders from anyone again if he survived the war (WW I). But here he is.

5 second review: There is a LOT going on in this movie. It feels like a 24 episode TV show crammed into a 2 hour movie. There's no time to nod off here, you have to pay attention. Blink and you'll miss something. That is a bit overwhelming, but it sure as hell isn't boring. It's a cool violent gangster movie. If you're not a big fan of Ben Affleck you're going to hate his smirky attitude though.

Dog Eat Dog is flipped out crazy

5 second plot: Three thugs get together and start doing what thugs do best: make lots of money on the wrong side of the law. But of course, it doesn't all work out the way they had planned. It doesn't help that one of them, Mad Dog, is crazy as fuck.

5 second review: This is some seriously flipped out Tarantino-style gangsta shit. But from time to time it's a bit much and sometimes it's just a whole lot of talking about nothing (in other words: too little). I enjoyed the flipped out stuff very much. Especially the way these guys lose their shit when they step into the normal world.

Inferno is more of the same

5 second plot: Robert Langdon wakes up in a hospital with a head-wound and memory loss. When someone tries to kill him, the ER doctor helps him escape and together they try to figure out what's going on.

5 second review: If you've seen one these Robert Langdon movies, you've seen them all. But if you're a fan, that's probably okay. I always like the clue-solving and the twists and turns. They are very far fetched, I know, but it's still fun. I could have done without the blurry flash-backs and visions of the future though.

Goldstone is a quiet one

5 second plot: When a detective comes to town looking for a missing girl, young sheriff Josh slowly begins to realize what's really going on in his quiet little mining town.

5 second review: It's a good story with great performances. It's slow and silent (not a lot of dialogue) and takes its time to get to the conclusion, but that fits perfectly in the whole lot of dusty nothing that is the town of Goldstone.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is a little bit predictable

5 second plot: Reacher makes a new friend in the military. When someone tries to kill her, he takes action. Then he finds out he has a daughter. When she also becomes a target, he brings his ass whooping to the next level.

5 second review: I like the Jack Reacher character and I like what Tom Cruise does with it. This movie's a bit more action packed than the first one. You see the twists coming from a mile off but it's still good (light) entertainment.

The Accountant is seriously cool

5 second plot: Christian is a math savant who's exceptionally good at accounting (but not very good with people). He does the books for (big) criminal organisations. When he finds out that the Treasury Department is making inquiries about him, he takes on a legitimate client. But then he finds something in their books that no-one was supposed to find out about.

5 second review: It's a very elaborate back story for a simple action movie and not everyone's motivation (for doing what they do) makes sense but this accountant is so fucking cool nothing else matters. I always love it when they get a mysterious invincible superhuman with mad fighting skills right.

Luke Cage Season 1 Episode 1-2 is a cool start

5 second plot: Luke Cage is an indestructible (as in: bullets can't hurt him) super strong guy who is trying to find his place in the world. In this first two episodes he tries to help his friend Pops make the neighborhood a better place to live in (a little bit).

5 second review: Mike Colter certainly has the physique to make us believe he is truly indestructible. This show looks cool, sounds cool and moves cool. Lots of awesome stuff is bound to happen, but the pace is so slow I don't know if I will have the patience to sit through 11 more episodes.

Don't Breathe is pretty brutal

5 second plot: Three young thugs try to rob a blind army veteran. He is not too happy about this and the three youngsters become trapped in his house while he hunts them down.

5 second review: It's a brutal and tense horror film with some great twists and turns. It might take a little bit too long for it to really get going, but when shit hits the fan... hold on to your seat. It's like a nightmare that won't end.

IMDb score: 7,4/10

Blood Father is no good

5 second plot: Mel Gibson's missing daughter accidentally shoots her boyfriend. His buddies want her dead. So she contacts her father for help. He's an ex-alcoholic ex-con who tries to stay out of trouble. It seems like that's not going to happen.

5 second review: MG is getting too old for this shit. When he gets angry it looks like he's going to have a heart attack. Catching his breath like he ran a marathon. I thought this was going to be a cool movie (the title is pretty cool). But it's not. It's mostly talking about how sorry they are for things they did.

IMDb score: 6,6/10

Hell or High Water is heavy shit

5 second plot: Two brothers start robbing local banks in Texas. They need the money to save their family's ranch. An old school Ranger is on their tail.

5 second review: Man, was I glad this movie was over. Not that it's bad, it's actually quite good, but it's so sad and heavy, it felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. There's sad music playing the entire time (violins and everything). And everyone is acting like there is a ton of lead in their shoes. But the story is actually not that sad. Confused yet? So was I.

Mechanic: Resurrection is not going to win a lot of prizes

5 second plot: The Stath has to kill three bad guys or a super-bad guy kills his girlfriend (who he met yesterday). And he has to make the kills look like accidents.

5 second review: They won't be winning any prizes for best screenplay or most coherent story for this one. The stuff they came up with to make this mess a little bit comprehensible is ludicrous. Thank god Indestructible Stath and Gorgeous Jessica are in this. Or I would have been pissed off for having to sit through it.

War Dogs is the shit

5 second plot: Two guys in their twenties score million dollar arms deals with the US government by supplying them with (lots of) guns and ammo for the war in Irak and Afghanistan.

5 second review: Based on a true story. You've got to be shitting me. The things they do is definitely not okay, but it's also seriously awesome. It might not have been this cool in real life, but this ice pissing, snow shitting coolness really works for the movie. That was the best way to play it.

Suicide Squad is a big bummer

5 second plot: The government hires (well, 'enslaves' actually) a group of superpowered criminals as a last line of defense.

5 second review: Jesus what a bummer. The trailers were cool. The movie is not. Some of the characters are okay (Enchantress and her bro), but the story, the action, the humor,... is terrible. Everything that happens in the movie happens for a reason that doesn't have anything to do with the movie. For instance: the fact that Deadshot doesn't wear his mask. This is simply done to show as much of Will Smith's face as possible. Because his face sells tickets. And the plot hole loops are ludicrous. At one point in the middle of an action sequence a soldier pulls out letters written by Deadshot's daughter. Why did he bring the pack of letters to the fight? Did he leave his extra AK47 clip at home to be able to bring them? If I start asking myself questions like that mid-movie, I know I'm going to be pissed off.

The Infiltrator is great

5 second plot:  In 1985 Robert Mazur, a U.S. Customs official, goes deep undercover to take on the big boys in drug trafficking. Instead of following the drugs, he follows the money. It doesn't take long for him to attract the attention of the top of the food chain.

5 second review: It's incredible that this movie is based on a true story. These people laid their lives on the line to get high end criminals behind bars. Everyone is telling lie after lie to cover up the previous lie, people sitting next to them are getting killed,... You can feel the story moving towards a big climax, but you don't know who is going to live to tell it. Awesome performances (not just you Brian Cranston) in a great movie.
