Death Note is actually pretty good
5 second plot: One day a book falls out of the sky. If you write someone's name in it, this person will die. Light (that's the name of the kid that finds the book) tries to do the right thing by writing down the names of evil men (and women?) but he takes his good intentions too far.
5 second review: I was not expecting to be positively surprised by this movie. Nat Wolff (Light, the lead character) has got a natural flair that makes this movie work. It's also not too serious, thank you very much. And Willem Dafoe is perfect as the voice of the evil demon that comes along with the book.

Annabelle: Creation delivers
5 second plot: This is the origin story of the doll Annabelle and the evil that comes along with her/it. A group of orphanages are on the receiving end of her wrath when they come live in her house. It takes them a bit to realize what they got themselves into.
5 second review: They were not kidding with the title. It's a good origin story and it connects nicely with the first movie. It is a bit dark and heavy (not much fun) but this darkness combined with some very scary moments and a touch of gore, makes it a pretty decent horror movie. Special kudos to the sound effects.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 8: Come to Jesus
5 second plot: Wednesday is still looking for Gods to fight on his side. At the end of this episode he seems to get what he wants. Laura and Mad Sweeney catch up with Shadow. Laura finds out her death was part of an elaborate plan.
5 second review: Finally we get a couple of answers. But I think this is the last episode of this season. So I'm wondering: what the fuck have I been wasting my time watching this shit? Especially this episode looks like a goddamn music video. It's style over content. To hide the fact that there doesn't seem to be any content. But the 9,1 score on the IMDb has just shut me up.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 7: A Prayer for Mad Sweeney
5 second plot: As Laura and Mad Sweeney are trying to catch up with Shadow and Wednesday we get a little bit of an origin story of Mad. Set in a different time.
5 second review: This is the kind of episode I would make if I suddenly realized I didn't have enough material to make the number of episodes I promised I would make. It adds little to nothing to the storyline and isn't very interesting.

It Comes at Night is no picknick
5 second plot: Paul lives with his family in a house in the woods. It seems that some killer virus decimated the world's population. Paul survived by following strict rules. One day a young man breaks into the house. He seeks help for his family.
5 second review: I can guarantee you there will not be a smile on your face after seeing this movie. It's tough as nails, but also mysterious, beautifully filmed and as tense as a movie can get. Not very much happens but you're still on the edge of your seat. It's a great movie but it's no picknick.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 6: A Murder of Gods
5 second plot: Shadow's (still dead) wife, the taxi driver and Mad Sweeney go on a road trip. The original plan is to go in Shadow's direction, but somehow they decide to go somewhere else first. Wednesday tries to find allies (other Gods (I'm just guessing)) for the upcoming war (what war? I don't know). This time he visits an old friend with a big love for guns.
5 second review: Not very much happens in this episode. There are a couple of (quick, but) spectacular deaths. And Mad Sweeney is on a roll. So still enough to make watching this episode worth wile but kick up the pace, pretty please.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 5: Lemon Scented You
5 second plot: Shadow's got a couple of questions for his dead wife. Their talk is interrupted when Shadow and Wednesday are called for a meeting with Mr. World. Mad Sweeney tries to get his coin back but he's out of luck.
5 second review: What a glorious cast. The story slowly begins to unfold. I'm happy Shadow is there to keep the show grounded and to point out the fact that we're seeing some weird shit.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 4: Git Gone
5 second plot: It's the origin story of Shadow and his wife. And how she came back from being dead.
5 second review: This is a pretty cool episode. With some pretty interesting ideas about life and death. And body-parts (f)lying around. And blood gushing all over the place. And an awesome display of a guy who gets kicked in the nuts so hard, he splits in half while his spine and skull fly out of the top of his body. If that isn't cool I don't know what is.

American Gods Season 1 Episode 3: Head Full of Snow
5 second plot: A woman dies, Shadow gets another chance at life, Wednesday is robbing a bank, Mad Sweeney is out of luck, a guy in New York has sex with his cab driver who's got flames coming out of his eyes.
5 second review: Well that's something you don't see every day: two bearded Arab guys fucking while one of them's got flames coming out of his eye sockets. And I probably missed the whole symbolism point they were trying to make (it seems that when he comes inside this other dude's butt his flame gets passed on? I don't know) because I was to busy thinking: MAKE IT STOOOOOOP!

American Gods Season 1 Episode 1-2 is impressive
5 second plot: Shadow (cool name huh) has just been released from prison. On his way to his wife's funeral (who died in a car crash with his best friend's private parts in her mouth) he is offered a job by Wednesday. A guy who seems to have been around for a while. And who seems to attract the kind of crowd that gets Shadow beaten up all the time.
5 second review: And I forgot about Vikings chopping each utter to pieces (parts flying around the screen) and a woman who 'absorbs' people in her vagina. I shit you not, it's that kind of TV show. Oh, and a buffalo with fire shooting out of his eyes. It's visually impressive but it looks like style over content so I wasn't going to pursue this further than 2 episodes. But goddamned I want to know what happens next.

Get Out will make your skin crawl
5 second plot: Chris is meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time. They're nice people, but something's fishy. It comes down to this: GET THE FUCK OUT! NOW! MOVE IT!
5 second review: This is a well made, good casted (the best friend steals the show though), tense, mysterious, weird movie with a crazy conclusion. There's a slow building (but very present) racist undertone that will make your skin crawl.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a bloody scary mystery
5 second plot: Tommy and Austin have to examine the body of a mysterious woman that was found in the basement of a murder scene. Slowly but surely they come to realize that they are dealing with some seriously fucked up shit.
5 second review: This is a dark, creepy, fascinating mystery. And it scared the shit out of me (I must admit I scare easily). The thing I liked most about it is that they decide to get the fuck out of there on the first sign of trouble. Don't you just love that? You never see that in a horror movie. They don't argue about it or nothing.

Westworld Season 1 Episode 4-10 is damn near perfect
5 second plot: The man in black and Dolores are looking for the center of the maze. Some of the hosts are starting to become aware of who (or what) they are. Ford is building a big new story-line. The other original creator, Arnold, seems to be reaching out from the afterlife.
5 second review: If you haven't started seeing this brilliant show yet, what are you doing wasting your time reading this? Hop to it! The hot shot actors are in top form, the mystery is out of this world awesome and the story is damn near perfect. I almost can't believe they pulled it off. This is must see TV. Pronto!

Arrival is mind-blowing
5 second plot: When 12 big alien spacecraft arrive it's up to the world's scientists and linguistic experts to figure out what the aliens want. Are they just visiting or are they here to kick us out?
5 second review: This movie is something else. It's mind-blowingly complex and mysterious but also dramatic and an emotional roller-coaster. It's certainly something you don't see every day. In the wrong hands, this would have been a disaster. Lucky for us, it is quite the opposite.

Personal Shopper is something else
5 second plot: Maureen is waiting in Paris for a sign from her twin brother, who died there a couple of months ago. In the meantime she works as a personal shopper for a rich and famous woman.
5 second review: Why do spirits always wait untill it's dark to come out? That freaks people out man. You will eather love or hate this movie. Or a little bit of both. I can't make up my mind: is it a mystery masterpeace or is it clumpsy filmmaking? I was not happy with the WTF ending. But I will be thinking about it for several days. I guess that was the whole idea. One thing's for sure though: Kirsten Stewart is brilliant.

The Girl on the Train is a very dark mystery
5 second plot: Every day Rachel rides the train fantasizing about other people's lives. This is her way of trying to cope with losing her own perfect life. One day the police shows up asking questions about a missing person. This happens to be one of her favorite train fantasy people.
5 second review: It's a very decent mystery but it tackles lots of serious issues so it's more dark drama than exciting mystery. And I was rooting for the latter.

Morgan shows off too little
5 second plot: Lee is on a risk evaluation assignment at a secret remote location where scientists created a new species, a sort of superhuman named Morgan. Lee needs to assess whether it's a good idea to proceed with the project or to terminate it.
5 second review: They don't show enough superhuman tricks, stay in the same boring surroundings too much and it all feels like I've seen it before (in Ex Machina). But although there are a lot of missed opportunities I do like what Anya Taylor-Joy does with the part. She crawls under your skin.

Stranger Things Season 1 is a big '80s adventure
5 second plot: Probable spoilers ahead! It's 1983. In a small town a little girl and a big monster escape from a secret government research facility. At the same time a kid goes missing. His friends and family start looking for him. But they will have to go to a very dark place if they want to get him back.
5 second review: This is a very well made 8-episode kids adventure TV show with a very scary monster. It's a little bit of an E.T. and Goonies wannebee but it goes a lot darker than these feel good movies. Personally I would have preferred the 1,5 hour movie version because some of the first episodes are a bit of a stretch. But overall: well done. And a special hip hop hooray for Millie Bobby Brown. This girl can act! Wow.

The Conjuring 2 goes visual
5 second plot: The Warrens travel to England to help an 11-year old girl and her family who got stuck with an evil spirit. This is the true story of the 1977 Enfield haunting.
5 second review: If you were looking for a scary bedtime ghost story, look no further. This is about as scary as a haunted house movie can get. The difference with other ghost movies is that we get to see them a lot in this one. Showing the creepy fuckers a lot isn't always a smart move, but it definitely works here.

The Offering is no good
5 second plot: God appears to be angry at us for developing binary code. It's the story of the tower of Babylon all over again. Because binary code is also a universal language you see. When people start killing themselves in very peculiar ways Jamie starts to investigate.
5 second review: The only reason I wanted to see this movie is because of the cool poster. And after having seen the movie, I can report back to you that the poster is the only good thing about it.
