London Heist is a bit heavy

5 second plot: Jack is a tough criminal who specializes in armed robberies. When his dad is murdered and his retirement money disappears, Jack is determined to find and punish the men responsible.

5 second review: This is a very cool gangster movie with an awesome bad-ass hero (on the wrong side of the law but we're still rooting for him). But it's a bit heavy on drama for my taste. A movie like this should be more fun, unless it's a true story.

The House is crazy

5 second plot: When the mayor decides to cancel their daughter's scholarship in favor of a town pool, Scott and Kate have to find a way to come up with a lot of money. Fast. Together with their friend Frank they start an illegal casino in his house. And everyone knows the house always wins.

5 second review: It's like one big crazy Saturday Night Live sketch. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense and lots of things don't add up, but it's funny, if you're into this crazy kind of comedy.

Baywatch is terrible fun

5 second plot: Three new recruits are training to be a Baywatch lifeguard. When the team discovers that a criminal mastermind (actually just a bad Bond villain wannabee) is trying to take over the bay, the training is put on hold.

5 second review: What can I say. It's a whole lot of bullshit. And the shit-pile gets bigger and bigger until it eventually gets too big and collapses under its own weight. But still, I laughed my ass off and actually had a fun time watching it. That says more about me than about the movie.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 13: Bury Me Here

5 second plot: Carol is homesick for Alexandria. The Saviors piss the King off. So I guess he will join the fight (surprise surprise). Morgan loses his shit.

5 second review: Everyone's acting like it's a surprise the Kingdom will join the fight. But we all knew it was going to happen. The Saviors were going to do something unforgivable so the King could change his mind. I just feel like the writers could have made it a bit more interesting. I think they are running out of juice.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 10: New Best Friends

5 second plot: Some of the warriors of the Kingdom are sick of being bullied by the Saviors. Daryl finds out that Carol is in the neighborhood. In the last seconds of the previous episode Rick and co were captured by an all-dressed-in-black-too-cool-for-school-team. He tries to convince them to join him in his fight against the Saviors.

5 second review: I don't like the new group Rick just found. It felt a bit like I was watching Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It's too much of a coincidence to find a big group with bad asses who are willing to fight (and are expendable). All they want is lots of guns. And we already know where they are going to get them. Remember the forest women? Also too obvious. Wouldn't it be easier to stick to the comic-book storyline?

Office Christmas Party is a small bummer

5 second plot: Clay tries to save his branch of the family company by throwing an awesome office Christmas party to impress a possible new (big) client. The party is... wait for it... legendary.

5 second review: I'm a very very very big fan of the first trailer that was released for this movie. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. The movie is good fun, but the hilarious bits are already in the trailer. The story is a bit lame. Some of the actors have trouble convincing themselves that what they are saying makes any sense.

La La Land should have been all fun

5 second plot: Girl meets boy. Girl convinces boy to go for his dream. Boy convinces girl to go for her dream. Sing. Dance.

5 second review: I really don't like singing and dancing in the movies, but I had to see what the fuss was all about. The leads are perfect together, the dialogue is fun and playful, the colors are spectacular but (BIG spoiler alert) I would have preferred an all out happy picture instead of the sour grape ending. It would have been a better fit.

Pet is okay

5 second plot: Seth has a crush on a Holly. When he realizes she's out of his reach he does something drastic. But the game he's about to play might be out of his league.

5 second review: At first I thought this was a shitty movie. The dialogue is terrible and the actors look like rabbits in the middle of the road watching the headlights of a car approaching. But halfway through it gets interesting. It's one of those rare moments where it pays off to be patient with a movie. It's not world class awesome but it's okay.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is not that interesting

5 second plot: Newt arrives in New York with a suitcase filled with magical creatures. When some of them escape he tries to get them back as quickly as possible. But there is another beast on the loose and now everyone is blaming him for the havoc it causes.

5 second review: The magic is cool and the beasts are fantastic but the story is rather slim (and not very interesting). The focus is mainly on computer graphics. The first half feels like a slow playful children's film and the second half like a rushed dark Gothic thriller.

IMDb score: 8,2/10

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 4: Service

5 second plot: This episode is all about Negan paying a visit to Alexandria to come and get half of their shit. And all of their guns. Carl tries to make a stand but it's no use.

5 second review: An entire episode of dancing around (Negan in Rick's face the entire time, threatening everything with a heartbeat) is a little bit too much of the same.

Come and Find Me is fairly intriguing

5 second plot: When David starts digging in the past of his missing girlfriend he finds out that she's not who she said she was.

5 second review: It's a fairly intriguing thriller up to a point but it's all a little bit far fetched and - massive spoiler warning - the entire movie is working towards an ending that doesn't come. I guess I will have to make up that happy ending myself.

IMDb score: 5,9/10

Inferno is more of the same

5 second plot: Robert Langdon wakes up in a hospital with a head-wound and memory loss. When someone tries to kill him, the ER doctor helps him escape and together they try to figure out what's going on.

5 second review: If you've seen one these Robert Langdon movies, you've seen them all. But if you're a fan, that's probably okay. I always like the clue-solving and the twists and turns. They are very far fetched, I know, but it's still fun. I could have done without the blurry flash-backs and visions of the future though.

Keeping Up with the Joneses is a little bit of fun

5 second plot: Jeff and Karen find out that their neighbors are secret agents. And they unwillingly get sucked into their dangerous secret mission.

5 second review: The story is not very original. Neither are the jokes. But these people are fun to look at. And I did have to laugh a couple of times. If you're just looking for some light entertainment, this will do just fine.

The Monster sure is the right title for this movie

5 second plot: A troubled (young) mom and her young (caring) daughter get into an car accident in the middle of the woods. And there is a monster waiting for them.

5 second review: The performances are good and the production is decent. But you have to be patient to get to the good stuff. It's a slow tension builder. And it's emotionally very heavy for a monster movie. So be prepared for that as well.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is definitely a long title

5 second plot: After his grandfather dies, Jake starts looking for answers to several riddles his grandfather left him with. He ends up in the house of Miss Peregrine. This house is filled with children that have peculiar abilities.

5 second review: It's a Tim Burton movie alright: peculiar, playful, dark,... Filled with beautifully crafted creatures and some great nods to his heroes (like a Ray Harryhausen skeleton battle). It's a nice adventure story. A peculiar one. It's good entertainment, but I wouldn't call it 'great'. It didn't blow me away.

In the Deep is (not) good for your blood pressure

5 second plot: Two sisters go shark-watching (huge great white ones) in a cage. But the cable attached to the cage snaps and they end up on the bottom of the ocean. The only way up is a slow ascend while trying not to get eaten.

5 second review: If you're claustrophobic (even a little bit) I would advise against watching this movie. Because you are going to hold your breath 90% of the time. It's very tense. And they are in a cage. Deep under water. With sharks swimming above their heads. For me personally it was a bit too much of the same. But I did hold my breath 85% of the time.

Bad Moms is textbook mommy feel good

5 second plot: Amy is a mother of two with a busy job and no me-time what so ever. When she finds out her husband is cheating on her with an online girlfriend, she decides it's time for a change. She finds two mom-soulmates to make the change happen. But not everything works out the way she thought it would.

5 second review: It's a movie filled with feel good mommy pep talk. If that sentence made you barf in your mouth, you might want to stay away from this one. There's a lot of whining but there's also cool crazy partying. That combined with the feel good makes this movie kind of okay.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is all about the odd couple

5 second plot: A young boy without a home who always gets himself into trouble is placed with a family that lives in the middle of nowhere. He goes into the bush with his grumpy foster-father and the two become friends and have all sorts of adventures.

5 second review: Julian Dennison and Sam Neill are fantastic. They make an odd but perfect couple. That's the main reason you would want to go see the movie. There's not much else going on. There are some fun jokes and fun crazy characters here and there (the social services woman is a bit much though) but that's about it.

IMDb score: 8,2/10
Our score: 6,5/10

Free State of Jones is a bit overly romanticized

5 second plot: Newton is a 'nurse' in the US Civil War. He doesn't believe in what he's fighting for anymore and deserts. He is hunted down but manages to stay one step ahead. It doesn't take long for him to find a whole bunch of soulmates. Together they fight for justice.

5 second review: There are some very realistic scenes in here that will make you realize what it was like to live in that period in time. It does feel a bit overly romanticized to make it a more comfortable view for a modern audience. I don't know if this guy really was the saint the movie depicts him as, but at least he fought on the side of the good guys. Right?

Independence Day: Resurgence is as big as it gets

5 second plot: It's been 20 years since the previous movie. The alien fucks are back. And they brought a bigger boat. Humanity used the 20 years to mix the alien technology with their own to create bigger and better weapons. But these better weapons still don't seem to be a match for the humongous ship the aliens came with.

5 second review: It is - of course - super over the top, but you know that already before you decide to go to see this movie. The sci-fi is good and the special effects are very decent. But if you're looking for more than a spectacular show, you're not going to get your money's worth.
