Crash is amazing
5 second plot: This movie is a day in the lives of a bunch of very different people that come together one way or another. They are all living in Los Angeles and all of them are either misunderstood or misunderstand themselves. Some get lucky and others don't. Some get another chance to make things right and others don't.
5 second review: This is an amazing movie that builds on an amazing script (Oscar for that). It's also visually stunning. It is beautifully shot (and edited (Oscar for that)). A lot of familiar faces (almost every face you see) and an amazing performance by each and everyone of them. It's one of those movies that will stick with you forever.

Downfall is not exceptional
5 second plot: This is the story of the final days of Hitler and his close followers.
5 second review: I don't really understand why anyone would find this movie exceptionally good. It's not bad, and the horrific story about the war is one that can't be told too often, but not taking the intentional emotional shocks (the killing of the children...) into account, I wasn't overwhelmed by it. Maybe it's because I knew that part of our history already very well.

Hotel Rwanda is almost too good to be true
5 second plot: This is the true story of a hotel manager who rescued over a thousand people (mostly Tutsi) by sheltering them from killing squads (mostly Hutu) in Rwanda in the 1990's.
5 second review: These people were so lucky, it's almost unimaginable. If this weren't a true story, I would hate it because I wouldn't believe it. The actors are amazing and the story is amazing, but it all feels so unreal. Not the killings of course, that can't get any more real. But the whole hotel story.

Million Dollar Baby is deep
5 second plot: Maggie wants to become a championship boxer. And she wants old timer Frankie to train her. He is reluctant at first, but she practically stalks him into doing it. And she sure does have the talent.
5 second review: I don't really like boxing movies very much. But the boxing in this one is pretty great. The dialogue between the old timers is really funny. But don't get too comfortable, because there is some serious drama in here. I knew there had to be a dramatic reason for that Oscar.

Catwoman is not sexy at all
5 second plot: It's about the most boring woman in the world who turns into a sexy crime fighting catlike superhero.
5 second review: Seriously, the intro almost bored me to death. Ten minutes after the intro I started getting really annoyed. I tried to fast forward but it only made me angrier.

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter,... and Spring is interesting
5 second plot: A young boy lives in a remote (floating) temple. He wants to become a monk just like his master. But he's got a long way to go and a lot of things to learn. We follow the story of the choices he makes and the paths he takes.
5 second review: If you're into ancient wisdom and Eastern symbolism, this movie is definitely for you. If you're not, you will find the first half comprehensible, but you will have difficulties with the second half. Apart from that, it's an interesting view on growing up, making mistakes and taking responsibility.

50 First Dates is so sweet
5 second plot: Henry meets Lucy and falls in love with her. The next day Lucy can't remember who he is. She was in a car crash and since then her memory resets every day. Henry tries to make her fall for him every day again and again.
5 second review: This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's such a beautiful, sweet, honest and funny story, I can watch it a million times and still smile every time Henry makes Lucy smile.

Spirited Away is a beauty
5 second review: Chihiro accidentally ends up in another world. This world is crowded with strange creatures. The leader is a (sort of) evil witch. To survive, Chihiro has to work in the bath house. She also has to find a way to get back home. But that's going to be a tough one. Luckily she's got a very big and warm heart to help her find her way.
5 second review: I don't know anyone with such a fantastic imagination as Hayao Miyazaki. How in the world does he do it? He must have amazing dreams. This is a beautiful story brought to life in beautifully detailed animation.

Monsters, Inc. is happy feel good
5 second plot: To power up their world, monsters have to scare kids. Because the screams are like fuel. One day a kid accidentally enters their world. And that's a big no no. Now the best team in monsterworld, Sulley and Mike, have to figure out how to resolve this problem.
5 second review: Funny, suspenseful, feel good, great story and magically drawn (well, maybe not really drawn). An amazing movie. For all ages. Well, maybe mostly for kids.

Wet Hot American Summer is just for fun
5 second plot: It's the last day at a summer camp in the 80's in wet hot America. It's a story about love and friendship. A story not bothered by any logic or structure what so ever. It's just for shits and giggles.
5 second review: This is experimental funny stuff. It doesn't work all the time and it was not always my cup of tea. But there will definitely be an audience for this. And they will find it hilarious. I heard that Anna Kendrick is a fan. She's probably right. There is no doubt that everyone involved had a lot of fun making this film.
